Albuquerque –
We learned more about the officer-involved shooting at a mobile home park that occurred this morning, Saturday, January 10th.
According to Albuquerque Police Department Interim Chief Cecily Barker, two men were reported commercial burglary and stealing packages from a facility in the area of 11500 block of Cochiti Rd SE. One of the men brandished a gun at some of the employees at the facility.
Officers immediately located the suspects in the mobile home park called, Four Hills Community, a few miles away from the original incident. The mobile home park was the location where a foot chase ensued with officers and the suspects.

During the pursuit, one of the suspects attempted to carjack a vehicle. Some time during the incident, one of the suspects pointed a firearm, prompting at least one officer to fire at the suspect who had brandished his weapon. A neighbor told us he heard at least 3-4 shots being fired and was told to go back inside his home.
“The officer was in the foot chase, he (the suspect) went up to the vehicle, which was in the middle of the street and was banging on the windows. The driver of that vehicle was in fear that he was going to try to take,” said Interim Police Chief Cecily Barker.
She also said at least one witness did state that they saw the suspect with a firearm in his hand, that he took it out of his pocket.
The suspect died on scene and we observed evidence markers with a gun near his body. The second suspect from the original crime scene was also taken into custody near the shooting scene.
A Multi-Agency Task Force will investigate the shooting and a media press briefing with body camera and other evidence will be presented at a later date.
