UPDATE: APD Arrests Woman Off Route 66 After Shooting Incident and Subsequent Standoff with Police

The Albuquerque Police Department is currently working to apprehend a woman who is barricaded in a building near Central and Vassar. The incident began when the woman fired shots at a male inside the residence, and then she refused to exit. The male was not harmed, but when APD officers initially arrived on the scene of this shooting, they located at least one casing in the area.

APD and Police Service Aides (PSAs) have the area blocked off while APD officers work to detain this individual, who allegedly has at least one warrant for her arrest. Reportedly, Central Ave from Princeton Dr. to Girard Blvd. is blocked off and Silver Ave from Princeton Dr. to Girard Blvd. is also closed.

APD has asked the Panera Bread on Central to shelter in place as they work to detain the person. APD has also made PA announcements to residents in the area to please shelter in place.

This situation is developing, and we will inform you as we learn more.

Update 1:

As of 1:25 PM, this situation is still going on.

As of 1:30 PM, this reportedly developed into a SWAT situation.

People are strongly advised to please avoid this area, especially avoid south Central.

UPDATE 2:

When APD attempted to detain the barricaded woman, one or more dogs in the dwelling reportedly bit an APD officer. Subsequently, an APD field officer discharged a firearm at the dog that was biting the officer. Additionally, a taser was deployed during this incident.

The woman who was wanted was finally taken into custody by police. Her mother and mother-in-law were also reportedly detained, it is unknown if they will also face charges. Earlier in the incident, the mother of the holed-up woman blew through the police perimeter in a RAM pickup truck and at times, the mother purportedly refused to comply with police.

As of Update 2, which is at 2:25 PM, people are no longer needed to avoid the area; just please respect the police perimeter that may still be in place. Panera Bread is no longer being asked to shelter in place.

As of 2:48 PM, eastbound Central is now being reopened.

As of 2:58 PM, Princeton was being opened back up.
