The Albuquerque Police Department’s homicide unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred overnight in Northeast Albuquerque.

Officers from the Northeast Area Command responded to a 911 call at 3:20 AM about a shooting on the 2600 block of Adams St. N.E., near Menaul and Carlisle. An adult male was discovered with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead by rescue personnel.

Initial witness accounts indicate the victim was shot while trying to stop a car burglary or theft. While on scene we observed at least 24 evidence markers indicating bullet casings. Neighbors were also talking with each other on what they heard during the barrage of gunfire.

No suspects are in custody at this time.

Albuquerque has experienced a surge in violence, with the 10th homicide since August 17, 2024. The total number of homicides in the Albuquerque Metro area for 2024 now stands at 76.
