NE Albuquerque – Around 2AM Sunday morning APD responded to a shooting call near Montgomery and Morningside. When Officers arrived on scene they discovered one person already deceased from gunshot wounds.

Violent Crimes detectives were on scene trying to figure out what led to the shooting. APD did confirm the person was shot by someone preventing a burglary of tools. After the burglar was shot he apparently ran away and died in the roadway of Montgomery. Drivers on Montgomery assumed the person dead in the roadway had been run over and APD initiated a traffic fatal team callout. However when detectives investigated the body they found he had been shot and connected it to the burglary.

It is now confirmed there was never a pedestrian fatal nearby.

We will update if APD releases more information.
