Albuquerque

On Friday, September 20, 2024, two students were booked in the Bernalillo County juvenile jail for bringing guns to ACE* Leadership High School located on 1240 Bellamah Ave NW.

ACE Leadership High School touts on it’s website being: an Albuquerque public charter school that connects a renewed vision of learning with New Mexico industry. We learned that Albuquerque Public Schools police went to the school after weapons were discovered on students. The school is not associated with APS and they are their own entity but they do not have their own police force to investigate criminal activities like APS does. It is believed that ACE has some sort of MOU (Memorandum Of Understanding) with APS to investigate criminal activities involving their students.

ACE Leadership High School Executive Director Justin Trager sent a letter to parents/guardians on Friday about the incident. Within the letter they said: their investigation found two students that were each in possession of a firearm that were NOT loaded, and one separate student with a BB gun. See the letter below:

Our sources have told us that two of the guns were actually loaded and ready to fire. From what we are learning, one male student was found with a 9mm handgun and ammunition in a bag. The other student, whose gender is not specified, had a .40 caliber handgun, with .40 caliber ammunition and a loaded magazine in their bag.

We reached out to ACE Leadership High School for comment and have not heard back from them at the publishing of this story. If they respond, we will post their comment in an update.

At least three teenagers will have a court hearing tomorrow in juvenile court regarding these weapons incidents. Two of them will be facing charges of possession or unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon on school grounds.

As we told you last week, in a different incident, a student at Volcano Vista was found with two guns and ammunition on campus. A search of the teen’s backpack by Albuquerque Public Schools Police revealed a handgun loaded with 15 bullets. They also found 16 additional bullets in a separate bag in the student’s backpack. Authorities also searched the teen’s vehicle and found a shotgun inside.

UPDATE:

We previously used the name ACE Academy for the school. However, the correct name is ACE Leadership High School.
