UPDATE:
At 11:44 AM, we received an email from the Albuquerque Fire Department, they report that the commercial fire is actually located at 126 Valencia Dr NE. The original reported address of 121 Cardenas Dr NE, which was stated on the PulsePoint app, was incorrect.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of Cardenas and Central at 10:45 AM on May 5, 2023. Engine 5 arrived within three minutes and discovered a working fire at a small commercial strip mall.
AFR’s PIo Lt. Fejer said “crews from Station 5 forced entry into the structure and stretched handlines to the interior for search and fire control. Crews quickly gained control of the fire and verified that the structure was not occupied. 12 AFR units were dispatched to the scene.”
No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
UPDATE:
As of 1:16PM, all remaining AFR units were cleared from the scene.
Any further updates will be provided as they become available.
