At 1:09 PM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 207 Richmond Dr. SE, located in the University Heights neighborhood. Engine 3 arrived within one minute and confirmed a working fire with heavy smoke and flames showing from a single-story, abandoned, boarded-up residence. Engine 3 deployed a hose line, made entry for fire attack, and conducted a primary search for any victims.
At least three engine companies, one ladder truck, two rescue units, two battalion chiefs, and two squad units were on scene. AFR conducted vertical ventilation on the roof to help gain control of the fire. AFR crews declared the blaze under control within 36 minutes.
During fire attack operations, one firefighter from Engine 3 was injured. Reportedly, Medic 3 and Rescue 1 transported the firefighter to the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH). We reached out to AFR’s PIO, Lieutenant Jason Fejer, to find out more about the injured firefighter. Lt. Fejer is waiting for more information.
AFR Fire Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire at the time of this publication. Firefighters prevented the fire from injuring any civilians.
Further updates, including information regarding the firefighter’s condition, will be provided when they become available.
