Detectives arrested and charged a man, who admitted to fatally shooting a woman at 120 57th St NW, which is near AFR’s Station 7. The shooting happened on Tuesday, March 11 around 6:50 PM.
Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a 911 call from a witness who reported hearing a gunshot and discovering the victim lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to her head. Another witness stated they saw a man standing over the victim before taking an item from her and walking away. Firefighters attempted to revive the woman on scene, she was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital but died there. Homicide Detectives responded to the scene around 7:30 PM, when they learned the woman had died at UNMH.
Surveillance officers later spotted and detained Noe Vega, 21, who matched the suspect’s description. Vega’s clothing matched the description given by neighbors who witnessed the man standing over the victim after the shooting. Vega was found carrying a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun and a magazine loaded with Staccato 9mm Luger ammunition—the same type of bullet casing recovered at the crime scene.
During an interview with detectives, Vega initially gave a false account of his whereabouts but later admitted to the shooting. He revealed to police that he lost his job at Walmart that day, and a man robbed him of both $200 and marijuana wax during a sale. He reportedly gave chase to the thief but lost him.
Vega informed the detectives that he believed the slain woman’s boyfriend had stolen the $200 and drugs from him. Vega believed the male would come back to the area of 57th Street. The male reportedly never returned, instead Vega saw the man’s girlfriend. Driven by fear of further exploitation by the thief and anger stemming from losing his job, money, and marijuana wax, Vega reportedly shot the woman. Police state the shooting was also an attempt to send a message to the woman’s boyfriend.

After shooting the victim, Vega stole her bag, thinking it contained his money, but found only $57. Feeling he couldn’t keep the money, he gave it to homeless individuals in a ditch. Police then located and detained him.
According to the criminal complaint, Vega “knew he had done something unforgivable.”
Authorities booked Vega into MDC and charged him with an open count of murder in the first degree, robbery, and tampering with evidence. APD continues to investigate the case.
APD is not identifying the victim until detectives formally notify her next of kin. It is also unknown if the woman killed was actually dating the alleged thief.

DA will most likely plead this down to manslaughter. This is what the DA does. He won’t charge anyone under 25 with a first degree murder. This guy will plead down and get 10 years.
You guys voted for this. This is your DA. He has told everyone he wants to charge anyone under the age of 25 as a juvenile. He has lobbied for this. If you look at all the cases he tries – anyone under 25 gets plead down. I have an article that of a girls who is 24 – she is on her (4th) first offense DUI. That’s right, she has been charged with DUI 4 times, the DA has dismissed all of them. So every times she gets a dui – it goes to court as her first one. No consequences, no jail, no charges. Under 25 and you go free.
