Homicide detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department are starting an additional investigation into a fatal shooting this morning in Southeast Albuquerque.
It has already been a busy night for homicide detectives, as they had just investigated a violent crimes call out involving three people at the 100 block of Pennsylvania S.E.
On this most recent situation officers were dispatched at 4:17 a.m. about reports of a shooting at a residence in the 500 block of Ortiz Dr. S.E., which is near San Mateo Blvd. and Zuni Rd.
One individual was located with gunshot wounds and transported to a local hospital. The individual died as a result of their wounds.
The investigation is in the initial stage. Additional information will be provided when it is available.

Detectives are investing this fatal shooting as a justifiable homicide.
The 77-year-old resident of the apartment called police at 4:17 a.m. to report a burglary in progress. The man told police he fired his gun at an intruder who was armed with a knife. He did not know if the intruder was injured.
As police arrived, they located an adult male in the street with a gunshot wound. The man, later determined to be the intruder, was determined to be deceased as a result of the gunshot wound.
Detectives are continuing to investigating the shooting. No charges were filed against the resident who shot the intruder.
