APD and AFR Responding to Serious Injury Crash at Eubank and Menaul

Albuquerque –

Just before 6:15 PM, the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a serious injury crash at Menaul and Eubank. Reports indicated that one person was ejected from the vehicle and was bleeding profusely.

AFR’s Engine 9, Ladder 9, and Medic 9 are currently on the scene. APD has blocked off the intersection at Menaul and Eubank to investigate the crash. This also allows AFR to treat and transport any injured individuals.

If we learn more about this crash, those injured, or when the intersection is reopened, we will update you.

UPDATE:

While on the scene, we observed one person lying on the roadway covered with a white sheet. At least three cars were involved in this crash.

APD’s Fatal Crash Team is currently at this location conducting an investigation.

UPDATE 2:

We received an official update from APD which said:

On August 4^th, 2024, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Eubank & Menaul in response to a three-vehicle crash.

Through the investigation by the Fatal Crash Team, it was discovered that vehicle #1 was traveling westbound on Menaul and vehicle #2 was traveling southbound on Eubank. Vehicle #3 was waiting in the northbound Eubank turn on eastbound Menaul. Vehicle #1 passed through the intersection against a red light and impacted vehicle #2. Vehicle #2 then impacted vehicle #3.

The driver of vehicle #2 was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene by AFR rescue personnel. All drivers remained on scene and provided statements to detectives. Statements were obtained from multiple witnesses as well. No signs of driver impairment were observed. 

Failing to obey a traffic signal appears to be the primary contributing factor in this crash.
