APD Arrests Dad for Killing Adult Son, Tells 911 Operator “I Killed My Fucking Son”

Albuquerque –

APD homicide detectives arrested Mark Leib and charged him for the murder of his son which happened during a confrontation at their North Valley residence late Sunday. He was heard on the phone with 911 saying, “I killed my fucking son.“

Mark Leib, 64, is accused of fatally shooting his son, Matthew Leib, 34, around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday at their home, located at 6221 Sabre Ct., N.W., which is west of 4^th St.

According to the criminal complaint, Matthew Leib was with his girlfriend and another friend at the home when Mark Leib returned home from work, threatening to kill somebody. Mathew’s girlfriend initially got Mark Leib to go into his bedroom and she closed the door.

But he exited the bedroom armed with a shotgun. The girlfriend said she tried pushing Mark Leib into the bathroom, but he kicked the door open and grabbed her shirt with one hand while armed with the gun in the other hand. She said she punched him in the chin and he punched her in the face and said, “I’m going to blow your brains out.”

The complaint says, Leib hit his son’s girlfriend with the stock of the shotgun in the back of her head.

Matthew’s girlfriend and friend left the house in separate vehicles. When they returned to look for Matthew, Mark Leib exited the house and said, “I fucking killed my son. I shot him in the fucking head.”

Homicide detectives tried to interview Leib and he plead the 5th.

Mark Leib is charged with an open count of murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Leib has an extensive history of drunk driving charges with the court system in New Mexico.
