APD Arrests Man in Deadly Route 66 Shooting

APD officers arrested Darius Ray overnight for the deadly shooting earlier on Monday outside the Sundowner apartments along Central Ave N.E.

Ray, 26, is accused of shooting a man shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Monday near the gate outside the hotel, located at 6101 Central Ave., N.E. Surveillance videos showed Ray help the victim stand up after the shooting and guide him toward the street. The man walked to a nearby Circle K where a security guard called 911.

The victim, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital. He later died as a result of his wound. Detectives have not formally informed his family about his death.

Through investigation, homicide detectives identified Ray as the shooter. They learned he was staying at the apartment complex and arrested him late Monday.

Ray is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence. The criminal complaint was sealed and this is the information that APD provided via e-mail release.
