Albuquerque, NM – Shortly after 1:30PM, APD’s civilian PIO Gilbert Gallegos sent out a media alert saying APD Officers were on the scene of a hot air balloon crash near Menaul Blvd NE and Monroe St NE. The incident was reportedly called into 911 around 1:10PM.

Reportedly, an adult male suffered minor injuries and he was being treated by rescue personnel. It is unknown if the injured male was taken to the hospital.

When we arrived on scene, we could not see any signs of the balloon crash and a supposed eyewitness said that the scene was cleared by APD rather quickly. AFR’s dispatch logs show that they cleared the scene/call in 21 minutes, so thankfully, it appears as though the balloon crash was very minor.

If more information is provided by APD or AFR at a later date, we will update you.

A member of the ballooning community reached out to us to let us know this was not a CRASH. It was merely an incident. He let us know many balloonists would hate us if we left the incident reported as a crash.
