Albuquerque, NM – The New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office are handling a fatal crash on I-40 between 98th Street and Atrisco Vista NW.
According to an NMSP spokesman, around noon, State Police were called out to investigate a single vehicle accident on I-40 EB at milepost 153. The crash involved a semi truck that went completely off the roadway and rolled. Reportedly, two individuals were in the semi crash and both occupants were ejected from the semi. One person died on scene and one other person was transported to a local hospital. It is unknown what condition the person transported was in currently. Both of the semi occupants are not residents of New Mexico, so the NMSP is working to contact their next of kin.
On scene, we could see that there was twisted metal from the guardrail and semi cab strewn across the side of the road. The semis cargo appeared to be thousands of boxes of strawberries. We could see several smashed boxes and other debris spilled onto the side of the roadway.
