An APD homicide investigator looks down at the body of the latest homicide victim.

Albuquerque –

The Albuquerque Police Department’s Homicide Unit is now in charge of a fatal shooting investigation. Early in the morning, at around 5:00 AM, officers were sent to San Pedro Dr NE and Indian School Rd NE due to reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found one person who had been shot and, unfortunately, didn’t survive.

The location given by APD was vague and we finally noticed a marked APD police unit in front of The Villas Apartments. On the outside, bystanders would not even see a homicide investigation being conducted.

Our reporter went to a public area where many homeless encampments were located beside the concrete sound barrier near I-40 and found the crime scene. It was on the south end of the parking lot, and investigators were focused on parked cars near the apartment building. The smell of Pall Mall cigarettes, urine, and smoked fentanyl filled the air in the dirt lot.

We noticed the victim was a male with arm tattoos and was in his mid to early 30s.

This is the 127th homicide for the Albuquerque Metro Area for 2023.
