Officers can be seen discussing the scene

SW ABQ – Albuquerque Police are on scene near 3rd St north of Bridge SW investigating what may be a triple shooting. Police say at least two were shot in some sort of gunfight at a home. Witnesses say there up to three who may have been shot and that all of them got transported away from the scene by ambulance. A witness on scene also said that one of the victims was shot in the face.

In an email sent by a APD public information representative it says:

one of three people shot today during a confrontation in the Barelas neighborhood died as a result of his wounds. Homicide detectives are investigating the incident as a possible case of self-defense.

It goes on to say one of the gunshot victims had already been released from University of New Mexico Hospital.

We were told on scene by an anonymous source that the event all stemmed from a home invasion gone bad. A male suspect came to the house kicked the front door in and immediately shot an uncle and nephew inside. The nephew was able to retrieve his own firearm and fired back at the suspect who had just kicked their door in and shot them. The home invader is apparently the man who died at UNMH a few hours later. APD is apparently investigating the situation as a justified homicide.

This is the 168th homicide for Albuquerque in 2022.
