Albuquerque –
Detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department’s Auto Theft Unit assisted the Denton Police Department by recovering a vehicle connected to an ongoing murder and missing person investigation in Texas during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
As part of a targeted anti-crime operation focused on hotels during the Balloon Fiesta, APD Auto Theft detectives ran the Texas license plate of a white SUV and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen.
Detectives contacted hotel staff and reviewed surveillance footage, which showed a man parking the SUV and walking away. Investigators identified the man as Richard Pastor Perez, 49, who is suspected of murdering his estranged wife, Marjulin Daiuru Briceño Arrieta, 42.
Denton authorities have issued a murder warrant for Perez.
