In a devastating incident, 5-year-old Galilea Samaniego, born in April 2018, was fatally shot while sleeping in a residence in the 2700 block of Paseo del Canto Dr. SW. The tragic event unfolded early on Sunday, August 13, 2023, when an unidentified individual fired a gunshot into the residence just before 6 a.m. Despite immediate efforts by a responding officer and subsequent medical attention, Galilea succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.
The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) has taken swift action, seeking clues to apprehend those responsible. Alongside the victim’s identification, APD has released images of two Kia Soul vehicles spotted in the vicinity during the incident. APD believes these two vehicles might be linked to the homicide.
