SW Albuquerque – APD officials have released new information pertaining to the senseless killing of a child early this morning. APD says that their homicide detectives are investigating an early morning shooting that resulted in the death of a 5-year-old girl in Southwest Albuquerque.
Homicide detectives determined the girl did not live at the trailer where the shooting occurred. APD learned that shortly before 6 a.m., on the 2700 block of Paseo del Canto Dr., S.W. the girl was visiting the trailer last night and sleeping in a front room facing the street when someone fired a gun into the trailer. The girl was struck at least one time. A dispatched officer who arrived on scene shortly after the shooting attempted life-saving measures until the girl could be transported to a hospital. The little girl died at UNMH as a result of her wounds.
“It appears at this point that the offender intended to shoot someone else, but blindly shot into a residence and tragically killed this young girl,” APD Chief Harold Medina said. “We believe there are people in the community who can provide details about this shooting. I hope they have a conscience and reach out to detectives so they can bring justice to this victim.”
APD is asking that anyone with information about the shooting or those who were involved to call 505-242-COPS.
