APD Still Firing and Suspending Officers with Ties To Disgraced DWI Unit

Albuquerque – APD announced earlier today that once again they have placed one of their officers on leave who had previous ties to their DWI unit. The latest officer is a deputy commander of the Internal Affairs Force Division. Today he was put on administrative leave as part the department’s ongoing investigation into allegations of wrongdoing by former DWI officers.

Gustavo Gomez, who has been with APD since 2008, became a deputy commander of the Internal Affairs Force Division in January 2024. He had once upon a time worked in APD’s DWI Unit from 2010 to 2013.

When the FBI began inquiring into APD officers shenanigans the department created an Internal Affairs Task Force to conduct all administrative investigations into alleged misconduct by current and former DWI officers. The primary administrative investigation was initiated on January 19, 2024. APD’s favorite Commander Kyle Hartsock was put in charge and has been overseeing the investigations. When Commander Hartsock finds issues he then forwards the findings to the Superintendent of Police Reform who then determines whether A.P.D policies were strictly adhered to.

The FBI has been simultaneously conducting a criminal investigation into allegations of illegal conduct. Agents had brought in Deputy Gustavo Gomez for an interview last week. Eventually the U.S. Attorney’s Office will determine whether any criminal charges should be filed against current or former officers accused of violating federal laws.

Ten officers have now been placed on administrative leave in connection to the investigation. Seven of those officers have since resigned; 1 retired and 1 was terminated. It is important to note that none of the officers have been formally accused or charged with a crime at this point of the investigation.

  1. I got a DWI “Impaired to the Slightest Degree” charge in 2006 when I had a BAC of 0.05. I hired Thomas Clear to represent me because of a reputation of getting cases dropped. I couldn’t afford the full meal deal so Tom assured me I would not spend any jail time, but rather do CCP or home detention. Thomas Clear had a direct connection with Vince Peele, CCP Director, whom was later found guilty of receiving bribes. To this day nobody has connected their relationship in regards to the APD DWI scandal. True story, somebody should investigate their relationship.
