APD homicide detectives charged Ray Louis Archuleta for Monday’s murder in Southeast Albuquerque.

Archuleta, 57, is accused of fatally shooting a man on Monday at 12:14 p.m. on Florida St. just north of Acoma Rd., S.E. The victim, an adult male who has not yet been positively identified, was located with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a hospital but died as a result of his wounds.

Witnesses told detectives they saw the victim standing near a white Toyota pickup truck and talking to a man who was inside the truck. They heard a gunshot and saw the truck speed from the scene.

Investigators located surveillance video that showed the truck pull into the alley on Florida St, between Acoma Rd. and Cochito Rd., at 11:59 a.m. The truck eventually moved to the east side of Florida St. A man can be seen approaching the truck’s driver side. A flash of light emanated from the driver side. The light was consistent with a muzzle flash and corresponded with the time of a ShotSpotter gunshot activation at that location. The truck fled south on Florida St.

Detectives identified the truck through surveillance video as a white Toyota Tacoma. APD’s Real Time Crime Center located the truck located the vehicle using automated license plate readers at locations near the shooting and captured the license plate number.

Investigators identified Archuleta as the registered owner of the truck. Investigators also located surveillance video from a smoke shop that showed Archuleta making a purchase at 11:45 a.m., about a half hour before the shooting. Investigators were able to match the video of Archuleta with his driver’s license photo.

Detectives later located the truck at 12720 Central Ave., S.E., and observed Archuleta going in and out of the apartment. It started a SWAT standoff and he was taken into custody.

Detectives obtained warrants and later arrested Archuleta at his apartment. He was booked overnight into the Metro Detention Center on an open count of murder, tampering with evidence, and shooting at or from a motor vehicle.
