Albuquerque –
We have received additional information on an APD involved shooting that left a woman dead at a trendy local hotel called Hotel Parq Central.
According to APD Director of Communications Gilbert Gallegos, police were called to the Hotel Parq Central about a woman who was causing a commotion in the lobby of the hotel. Gallegos said they did not have any units available in the Valley area command and sent officers from the Northwest area command.
While officers traveled across the city to handle the situation the woman started breaking items in the lobby and armed herself with sharp glass. APD then upgraded the call. The woman then disarmed a security guard and exited the hotel firing shots at random. She did shoot a Hotel Parq Hotel SUV in the driver side window.
“She fired at least 5 or 6 shots still to the air or to the ground,” said Gallegos.
When officers arrived they took cover behind vehicles and the crazed woman fired at least one shot toward officers. Three APD officers returned fire and killed the woman.
Gallegos said the woman was in her 30s and had an extensive history of mental health calls with law enforcement and city agencies in the Albuquerque area.
For 2025, this is the eighth officer-involved shooting involving the Albuquerque Police Department. Of those incidents, six were fatal and two were non-fatal.
UPDATE:
APD states that the woman killed during an exchange of gunfire with police has been identified as Desiree Herrera (1/29/1989).
