Albuquerque –
At approximately 6:00 PM, a male driver in a black* SUV fled from a traffic stop conducted by an APD officer from the University Area Command. The absconder ended up in the area of Trumbull and Georgia, where he reportedly hid on the campus of Emerson Elementary School. APD has established a perimeter around the school as they search for the fleeing individual.
When the incident began, there were still staff inside of the school, so APD escorted them from the premises. At the time of this posting, it is believed that everyone has been evacuated from the school.
People living in the area may notice a heavy police presence while this is ongoing. APD’s K9 unit was requested to assist in arresting the man hiding from police.

As of 7:35 PM, this situation is still ongoing.
UPDATE 2:
At 8:00 PM, the man was taken into custody by APD. APD’s Air Support, Air 2, was able to launch and help assist. Officers are now working to break down the perimeter.
