On Sunday, March 5th, 2023, we reported about a shooting incident at a restaurant that left two people wounded. We learned that at around 4:30PM, there was a large police presence by Albuquerque Police at and near El Sinaloense Mariscos and Grill, located at 5025 Central Ave NE. Witnesses told us that at least two people had been shot inside the restaurant.

Immediately after the shooting, APD arrested 22-year-old Jonathan Enriquez on three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied dwelling, tampering with evidence, negligent use of a deadly weapon, and unlawful carrying of a firearm into a liquor establishment.

The area where Enriquez was captured.

According to a criminal complaint, Enriquez stated that he is one of the victim’s “baby momma’s brother.” Enriquez told police he thought the victim had something in his hand and acted in self-defense.

The complaint states video surveillance shows the two getting in each other’s faces inside the business and the restaurant owner was seen trying to break up the fight. The owner then tries to grab the gun from Enriquez, but Enriquez fires off one shot. It struck the baby momma’s brother in the chest, grazed the restaurant owner, and another person unrelated to the incident.

Enriquez was chased out of the restaurant by the owner and some other patrons. He was followed to the 5200 block of Copper Ave. Enriquez tried to hide and he also ditched his weapon nearby. He was taken into custody and charged for his crimes. His prior criminal record was a DWI in 2020 and the case was dismissed. On 3/8/2023, he will have a pre-trial detention hearing to see if he should be held till his trial.
