Westside Albuquerque – Around 2:30PM, there were reports of gunshots near West Mesa High School. When Albuquerque Police arrived they found at least one gunshot victim who was shot in a park just south of the West Mesa High School campus..

According to witnesses, they heard at least six shots and a group of high school age students running from a tunnel on the very south east corner of the Cedar Ridge Park. One witness said a female victim was struck in her buttocks and was taken to UNMH. A civilian APD public information official stated it was a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

While we were on scene we noticed blood drops on the sidewalk outside of the park and APD CSI officials could be seen carrying out a pink backpack and bullet casings from the apparent shooting scene in or near the tunnel at the park.

High school age kids who ran away from the melee immediately after the shooting joked that they thought their friend was killed while she was screaming in pain.

The APD public information office did not notify media about any suspect information nor if they have leads in the case.
