Barricaded Man in Car Causes Traffic Delays Near Base

Albuquerque –

There is police activity at the area of Louisiana Blvd SE and Gibson Blvd SE.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area. Police are attempting to negotiate with a man who is barricaded inside of his vehicle and reportedly making threats.

Kirtland Air Force Base has reportedly been made aware of this situation for individuals who need to leave the base.

Due to its proximity to the police activity, La Petite Academy on Gibson has been requested to shelter-in-place. In addition, the Kirkland Credit Union has been asked to shelter-in-place.

Gibson and Georgia, Kentucky and Eastern, and Gibson and Kentucky is purportedly blocked. It is also believed that Louisiana is reportedly closed near Eastern.

UPDATE @ 3:35 PM:

We discovered that before this incident, the suspect reportedly attempted to rob the Kirtland Credit Union.

UPDATE 2 @ 4:17 PM:

The man was taken into custody by the Albuquerque Police Department. Both directions of Gibson and southbound Louisiana near Eastern are allegedly still closed as the APD Tactical Units were on scene and police have to process the car.

UPDATE 3 @ 4:45 PM:

Police were supposedly opening up lanes of travel on Gibson, Louisiana and all of the side streets that were closed.

The parking lot for the Kirtland Credit Union remains blocked off.
