BCSO Releases Body Camera Footage of Shooting of Cop Killer Scumbag

Albuquerque –

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office released some body camera videos related to the manhunt of first responder killer Jaremy Smith.

Smith is accused of shooting and killing New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare and South Carolina Paramedic Crew Chief, Sgt. Phonesia Machado-Fore.

At approximately 8:20 AM on Sunday, March 17, 2024, we reported to you that Jaremy Smith, the suspect responsible for the killing of NMSP Officer Justin Hare was taken into custody.

The body camera footage shows an intense foot chase of Smith. BCSO deputies locate him within a neighborhood and fire at him. Smith is hit four times and deputies then render medical aid, including applying packing his wounds and applying chest seals. On the video, Smith’s requests for water, including his asking for water from what we presume to be the garden hose rather than a traditional fountain, are audible despite his injuries.

Charges Against Smith

Smith has been federally charged. The federal indictment charges Smith with carjacking resulting in death, causing death by discharging a firearm during a violent crime, kidnapping resulting in death, being in possession of a firearm as a prohibited person, possessing a stolen firearm, and transporting a stolen vehicle across state lines. If convicted, Smith could face a mandatory life sentence or the death penalty for the kidnapping resulting in death charge, as well as life imprisonment or death for the carjacking and firearm discharge offenses. There is no possibility of parole in the federal system.

Smith awaits trial in Federal Court in New Mexico, while also facing pending state charges in both New Mexico and South Carolina. On April 5, 2024, authorities in Marion County, South Carolina, issued seventeen warrants against Smith, alleging his involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a Pee Dee paramedic prior to Officer Hare’s death in New Mexico. The warrants encompass charges of murder, kidnapping, carjacking, criminal conspiracy, grand larceny of a motor vehicle, first-degree burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and felon in possession of a handgun.

Smith will remain in federal custody in New Mexico until the resolution of the federal charges against him. New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torres has announced that his office will seek state charges against Smith following the conclusion of the federal case. Furthermore, once New Mexico’s legal proceedings conclude, South Carolina will also seek to charge Smith with Machado-Fore’s murder.
