BREAKING: APD Officers have Shot and Killed a Man Walking around with a Gun near Central/Tramway

Foothills Albuquerque –

Around 5:40PM, Albuquerque Police were dispatched to Central and Tramway Blvd. in reference to a male walking around displaying a handgun. The radio calls indicate he was known to the APD Crisis Intervention Team.

The radio dispatch transmissions said he had drug abuse issues and prior military experience. The dispatchers advised officers to use caution and not bring up his past military service. According to information aired from dispatch he had mental health issues with schizophrenia and PTSD.

A shots fired call was created shortly after the information was given to officers in the area. Albuquerque Fire and Rescue worked on the suspect but he was declared dead on scene. There were no reported injuries to any APD officers who were involved in the shooting. The shooting was near 13440 Wenonah Ave SE behind the Sprouts shopping center.

This is the second APD officer involved shooting of this week and the 33rd homicide in Albuquerque for 2022.
