UPDATE: One Dead in Deputy Involved Shooting in South Valley

Albuquerque, NM – Around 10:00AM, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office announced on their Facebook page and Twitter that BCSO Deputies were on the scene of a Deputy Involved Shooting. The shooting occurred at 2316 Griffin Rd SW. BCSO reported that all Deputies were safe.

This is a developing story and according to BCSO, the scene is still “active.” BCSO will release more information as soon as the investigation allows.

UPDATE:

At a press conference, BCSO PIO and sworn Deputy Angelina Navarro announced that BCSO responded to 2300 block of Griffin Rd SW, for a welfare check. Sometime after BCSO Deputies arrived, Deputies were a confronted by a man inside the home. The male that was inside the home was shot at least one time and they died at the scene.

At 3:55PM, BCSO’s public information officer Jayme Fuller-Gonzales sent out a statement update:

Deputies on the scene made contact with a suicidal male subject armed with a knife. A confrontation ensued between the male and the deputies, and at least one deputy discharged their firearm, striking the subject. He suffered fatal injuries as a result of the shooting and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No deputies were injured during this incident.
