BREAKING: Heavy Police Presence on Westside Albuquerque with Officer Involved Shooting

APD officers secure the scene of an OIS that involved a man that ended up dying from a gunshot wound.

Albuquerque –

APD officers are on the scene of a man with at least one rifle on the westside of Albuquerque near 10300 Golf Course RD NW, which is the Circ Apartments.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity of the apartment complex and observed a brown truck fleeing the complex, heading towards the Smith’s grocery store. A shelter-in-place has been put in place by APD for local businesses and apartment buildings across from Smith’s.

Streets around the area will be closed as police look to secure the area. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

This is a developing story and we will update when we learn more.

Update:

The suspect involved in this very tense situation is no longer a threat to the public. The individual reportedly shot at police and then ultimately drove towards APD officers, was fired upon by the police, and sustained a fatal gunshot wound. It is unknown if the suspect’s fatal gunshot wound was self-inflicted or if he was fatally wounded during his gun battle with APD.

Residents and businesses in the area that were advised to shelter-in-place have been given the all clear.

No officers were injured.

This officer involved shooting will be investigated by the Multi-Agency Task Force.

There is still a heavy police presence in the area. At the time of this update, drivers are still encouraged to steer clear of the area.
