Engine 1 arrived first on scene and quickly identified a small chemical release rather than a structure fire. AFR crews immediately upgraded the response and requested the Hazmat Task Force to assist in identifying and mitigating the hazardous material, protecting hospital staff and patients, and evaluating for any medical issues.

AFR’s Hazardous Materials Response Team established control zones, isolated affected occupants, and contained the chemical release. Paramedics evaluated all exposed individuals on scene, and no transports were necessary. According to AFR’s PIO, there were no known injuries to civilians or emergency personnel.

A total of 20 units responded to the incident, 17 from Albuquerque Fire Rescue and three from Albuquerque Ambulance Service.
