Albuquerque –
On January 8th, 2026, an Albuquerque Police Officer patrolling the War Zone observed a blue Subaru Impreza driving around with a license plate that didn’t match the car description. The officer tried to pull the car over but it fled.
The car fled from the traffic stop but the officer was quickly able to deploy a GPS tracker on the vehicle. The car accelerated at a high rate of speed while running red lights and acting like a true jackass. Officers from various area commands joined in and pursued the vehicle.
The vehicle ended up at the intersection of John St. and Trumbull Ave. At that location two suspects were seen fleeing the scene. APD was able to get the driver, 31-year-old John Rodgers into custody, but could not find the other suspect who was in the car.
Rodgers spoke to officers and stated he was borrowing the car from an unidentified friend that let him borrow the car for over 3 days. Rodgers stated he did not know the guy who fled from the scene with him.
A criminal record search shows Rodgers has been convicted of receiving and transferring a motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing an officer in a 2017 case.
Rodgers was booked on similar charges with this 2026 case.
