Crash I-40 Eastbound at Coors

At 1:30 PM, a crash was reported at mile marker 155 on eastbound I-40, which at Coors. The Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene. AFR’s Engine 14, Engine 7, Rescue 14, Rescue 17, Squad 2 and Battalion Chief 1 were sent to this accident.

When APD and AFR arrived, they saw two vehicles were involved in the crash. One vehicle is a four-door black Dodge Ram pickup truck, and the other is a black GMC SUV. The SUV had rolled over onto its roof, with the pickup truck on top of it.

AFR stated on Facebook that “Rescue 17 was first one scene and confirmed one vehicle on its roof and another vehicle on top of it. All three occupants were able to self extricate. Two patients were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.“

From NM DOT camera images, traffic on I-40 EB is backed up to Unser, and the warning on NMROADS states “I-40 Eastbound at Coors has been reduced to 1 right lane due to a crash. Expect heavy delays.“

APD is presently investigating the cause of the collision.

There appears to have been a second traffic collision at this same area, which occurred at 2:36 PM. AFR again sent Engine 14 and Rescue 14. It is unknown if this second crash resulted in any injuries.

Yesterday, both AFR and APD were called to another rollover accident on I-40, this time in the westbound direction near Coors.

UPDATE:

As of 3:40 PM, traffic is moving on I-40 eastbound where the collision happened earlier.

From 12:40 PM until 6:25 PM, there have been 18 accidents with injuries in which AFR has been dispatched. This total doesn’t include non-injury related crashes.
