Jose’s Family Desperate for Answers After Fatal Shooting
Jose Gonzalez’s family has reached out to ABQRAW a couple of times, asking for help from the public as they seek justice from those responsible. They informed us that Jose was shot during a road rage incident near Eubank and Copper. The family reports that the “suspect vehicle involved is a dark colored Chrysler 300 older model with peeling paint with at least three occupants 15-20yrs old.”
According to the family, a friend drove Jose to UNMH for medical care after the road rage shooting happened. After dropping Jose off at UNMH, the “friend” left and reportedly crashed their vehicle near 4th and Candelaria. We initially reported this shooting on September 15th. At that time, APD’s Deputy Director of Communications and Marketing, Rebecca Atkins, mistakenly stated that the unidentified victim had been shot and killed.
On Tuesday, September 29th, Jose’s family requested we update the September 15th story to reflect that he had recently died from his injuries. We learned from Jose’s family that he was on life support until September 17th, of this year when he was finally declared brain-dead and he was removed from life support. We explained to the family that our report was based solely on the information provided by APD.
As of this posting, which is October 12, 2024, APD has not officially informed the media of Jose’s death. We first learned about Jose’s death from an “official” source when the Crime Stoppers Bulletin bulletin was published.
