Albuquerque –

At around 3:40 PM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue were dispatched to the 4800 block of Jefferson St NE for two suspicious devices. The devices were reportedly found inside a unit at CubeSmart Self Storage. This is on Jefferson between McLeod Rd NE and Bogan Ave NE (west)/Lumber Ave NE (east).

Upon arrival, officers found two devices allegedly resembling pipe bombs. Authorities evacuated the area and restricted civilian and pedestrian traffic. While the incident unfolded, AFR remained on scene in the event anyone was injured.

Just before 5:00 PM, APD used disruption devices to detonate the suspicious items. Bomb squads often deploy disruption devices to safely neutralize or disable suspicious devices. These devices work by rendering the explosive or dangerous components of a bomb inert, preventing a full detonation. It is presently unknown if the devices were real or not.

APD was working on clearing the area where the devices were found to make sure no other devices were present.
