According to APD civilian spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos, witnesses said a car was traveling westbound on Central Ave., near Utah St., S.E. when it struck an adult male. Gallegos did not give any additional information on the type of vehicle it could have been.
While on scene we observed investigators taking measurements and evidence in the westbound and eastbound lanes of Central Ave. The corridor smelt of cigarettes, drugs, and human urine. There was quite a bit of pedestrian traffic along the corridor and many homeless encampments with people using drugs.
Central Ave has become a common place for pedestrians being hit by vehicles. Pedestrians commonly dart out in the middle of street and fail to use the crosswalks on Route 66.
We will update this story when more information becomes available.
