Albuquerque –
The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that happened shortly before 10:00 PM on Friday, near Central Avenue and Broadway Boulevard NE. A vehicle hit an electric scooter, leaving the rider critically injured.
APD’s Fatal Crash Team is leading the investigation. Early findings indicate the vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan, fled the scene before APD officers arrived.
The sedan was heading north on Broadway Boulevard when it struck the scooter rider while crossing the intersection at Central Avenue. After the crash, the vehicle left the area. The injured scooter rider was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Detectives collected all available evidence at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
It is absolutely astonishing to me that Dreamy Mayor Timmy is so obsessed with these death magnets that he actually went out of his way to bring them back to Albuquerque after they finally died their proper death several years ago. Here are a few key reasons they are a TERRIBLE idea:
1. As with motorcycles in Albuquerque and throughout this state, the geniuses who make laws here decided it was a terrific idea to reverse the helmet law that we had for decades. Riding these glorified electric skateboards without a helmet, kneepads, long pants, long sleeve shirt, and gloves is a setup for serious injury, major hospital bills, or death, or all the above.
2. Most of the ppl who ride these things are stoooopid, often drunk ppl, partying downtown, and who think it’s fun to cruise around on them while drunk, high on pot, other drugs, or all of the above. I see them riding these things downtown racing each other all the time at night going against traffic and running red lights. The cops do nothing about it. They don’t event have proper lighting, if you can even call it that.
3. Some creative ambulance-chaser lawyer will once again figure out a way to sue the pants off the city and the scooter companies when a moron scooter rider gets seriously injured or killed because hey, that’s what they do, and we the tax payer will end up paying for this……..again!
I rest my case….. It is inevitable.
Some Physics lessons hurt more than others.
He was on a skateboard. I saw it happen. I tried to get his name but couldn’t understand him. Whoever you are, I’m thinking about you. I hope you make it.
