Man Ends Life While APD Tried to De-escalate Situation, Multi-Agency Task Force Investigating

Albuquerque –

The Multi-Agency Task Force is investigating the death of a man inside a home after Albuquerque Police Department officers attempted to make contact with him.

Late Friday, APD officers entered a home in the 6000 block of Cathy Avenue NE with the homeowner’s permission. The man inside reportedly threatened to harm himself and the officers with a gun.

APD officers backed out of the home and tried to de-escalate the situation. SWAT officers were later called in.

Around 6:50 AM on Saturday, officers re-entered the home and found the man deceased.

The incident is being investigated as an in-custody death by the MATF.
