Effing Chaos at Bar, 1 Shot Dead

Albuquerque –

On August 22nd, 2025, just before 10:45 pm, the Albuquerque Police Department was dispatched to 5300 Sequoia Rd NW to Effingbar and Grill. When officers arrived, they found a person with at least one gunshot wound.

Rescue personnel arrived on scene and provided medical aide to the victim. The victim passed away from their injuries and now this will be a homicide investigation.

The parking lot of the Effingbar and Grill was filled with highly emotional patrons at the scene due to the shooting. Many of the patrons’ cars are not able to leave because of it being an active crime scene. APD tried to get ACS to transport people away from the scene. ACS denied the request.

This will be a homicide investigation and these typically take 6 hours to investigate. APD, Police Service Aides, and the New Mexico National Guard will be blocking roads in the area to preserve the crime scene.

Update:

At 9:01 AM, on Saturday, August 23, the Albuquerque Police Department’s PIO released a statement about this shooting to inform the public. That’s 10 hours after it happened.

We learned that the male who was shot had “fatal gunshot wounds.”

The statement said “One person was detained for questioning. Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting.”
