Explosion Rocks Neighborhood in NE ABQ, 1 Victim Found in Rubble

Albuquerque –

Around 10:30PM, reports of a large explosion rocked the 1100 block of Walker Dr NE in the Northeast part of Albuquerque. This is a neighborhood near the Los Altos Park near Lomas Blvd NE.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area and found a few houses severely damaged by a gas leak explosion. At least 1 person was taken to UNMH with injuries resulting from the explosion. AFR is searching the area for more victims within the neighborhood and the rubble of the houses.

Debris can be seen strewn through the street and AFR is working on securing the area of any future explosions.

Early indication is pointing to a gas leak in the area that resulted in the explosion and destruction of the houses. Albuquerque residents said they could hear the explosion as far as Tramway and Lomas area.

AFR provided an update just after midnight:

On November 23, 2025 at 22:23, AFR was dispatched to 1025 Walker NE for a 57D-6, residential home explosion, and reports of the structure on fire. Engine 9 arrived on scene and confirmed a significant home explosion and working structure fire. Crews from Station 9 initiated fire attack and search. One individual was rescued from inside the home and was transported with serious injuries to the hospital by Rescue 9. The fire was quickly controlled. Searches of the remainder of the home and debris piles were negative. The neighboring structure to the south also sustained significant damage from the explosion. No reports of injuries from that residence but the occupants will be displaced until the structural stability of the home is verified. NM Gas and PNM were on scene to isolate utilities. NM Gas took multiple readings and did not detect any leaks in the areas surrounding the residence. The event appears to be isolated to the involved address and evacuations were not required.AFR Fire Investigators are investigating the incident. A cause has not been determined at this time.
