On February 17th, 2026, the Bernalillo County Dispatch Center received a call in regards to a woman calling and stating there was a domestic violence situation happening. During the call dispatchers heard gunshots and the caller stated she and her two children had been shot. The caller stated that her husband was responsible for the shooting.
“I would say this is probably the most difficult 911 call that I ever heard in my career. It’s pretty difficult to listen to and hear people, people suffering and people, in the process of dying. But I will tell you this, this doesn’t come out a lot,” said Sheriff John Allen.
BCSO Deputies arrived on scene at the Leisure Mountain RV Park and located the house where the shots were being fired at. Sanchez emerged from the home naked and refused to comply. He exited the house yelling, “I killed her, she’s a lawyer and I killed this bitch.”
Deputies tazed him to get him into custody.
According to the criminal complaint, during the 911 call, Sanchez was heard in the background telling his wife these things:
“Why aren’t you dead?”
“I’m gonna die.”
“She is a lawyer and I killed this bitch.”
“Are you calling police?”
“How is the baby still alive” You should be dead!”
“I’m in the Marine Corps, I’m fucking insane kill me.”
The criminal complaint states, BCSO deputies entered the home and found a four-year-old boy dead and a 1-year-old boy and their mom critically wounded with multiple gunshot wounds.
Sanchez declined to give any statements to homicide detectives. The woman was able to tell detectives that Sanchez woke her up accusing her of cheating and not having sex with her. She was rushed into surgery after that statement.
“One year old male child is in critical condition. A four year old male child is deceased on scene. An adult female, identified as an assistant District attorney at the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office is listed in critical condition,” said Sheriff John Allen.
The woman was a Assistant District Attorney with the Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney. The DA’s Office sent out a statement that mentioned the woman’s employment and the two children.
“This heartbreaking situation has profoundly affected our entire office. While our team confronts difficult and emotional circumstances in the course of our daily work, we are, first and foremost, human. News of this magnitude impacts us not only as professionals but as colleagues, friends, and members of a caring community,” said in an e-mail portion of the statement.
We reached out the the Sheriff’s office for comment. We will update the story if we hear back.
