On October 27, 2023, in a significant and long-awaited development, a former teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was sentenced to the maximum punishment allowed by law. Danny Aldaz, 47, who was convicted of raping a second-grade student, has been sentenced to 57 years in the NM Department of Corrections.
This verdict comes after a jury found Aldaz guilty of two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a child under 13 and two counts of criminal sexual contact. The crimes occurred in 2018 and 2019 when he assaulted a seven-year-old girl who was one of his students. These disturbing incidents occurred inside his own classroom, where he taught second grade.
Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman expressed relief, saying, “This predator will never be able to hurt another child again. He will spend the rest of his life in prison where he belongs.”
What’s more, Aldaz now faces additional charges related to the sexual abuse of another child and will have to go through multiple trials. Bernalillo County Senior Trial Attorney Rebekah Reyes emphasized, “Today, I said enough is enough. It’s time we start putting our children’s lives ahead of their abusers.”
The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office will also be in close consultation with the affected families to decide the best course of action regarding the pending trials. They have expressed their gratitude to the dedicated detectives of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office for their relentless work on these cases.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office also extends its gratitude to the investigators from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office for their dedicated efforts in handling these cases.
