Game and Fish and APD Nab Bear in Late Night Capture

Albuquerque –

On August 11th, around 10PM, numerous reports came into the Albuquerque Police Department about bears roaming some foothills neighborhoods. One of our reporters went to one event near Lomas and Muriel St. NE. APD officers and New Mexico Game and Fish swarmed the neighborhood to find the bear.

Neighbors had to bear with a large police presence as law enforcement tracked it through backyards. APD used a drone to monitor the movements of the bear. The four legged curious creature finally got tired of running and ended up in the back yard of a house on the 1000 block of Muriel St. NE.

A Game and Fish officer fired a tranquilizer dart at the bear and it soon exited the backyard and came around to the front driveway of the home with a dart visible on it’s neck. It stumbled to the driveway and started to feel nothing. The bear finally collapsed to the ground.

Smartly and carefully the Game and Fish officer literally poked the bear to see if the sedatives had finally taken full effect. APD and the wildlife officers worked together to load up the bear into a transport trailer.

Game and Fish tagged the bear and they will relocate it to a safer location outside city limits. The Albuquerque area has seen a rise in bear sightings due to dry conditions in the mountain areas. Local and state government offices urge people to call New Mexico Game and Fish if they see a bear in the city.
