Valley Albuquerque – Around 5AM, Albuquerque Police were dispatched to a shots fired call at 1st Street underneath the I-40 overpass. When officers arrived they found a male already dead.

“Upon arrival, officers located one individual who had succumbed to gunshot wounds on scene. This has activated a APD Homicide Unit Investigation,” said public information officer sworn Albuquerque Police Officer Chase Jewell.

The air at the scene smelt of burning debris and garbage from homeless people creating makeshift fires. APD investigators could be seen photographing and cataloguing evidence on the east side of the street. A man laid dead with what appeared to be all his possessions nearby with at least 5 evidence markers surrounding his body. There was a Target shopping cart and many items around the scene.

This area has been popular relocation area for the homeless since the closure of Coronado Park.

This is APD’s 4th violent crimes call out in the last 24 hours. This Albuquerque’s 26th homicide of 2023. That is 4 homicides ahead of last year’s record breaking 170 homicides.
