Homicide in Barelas neighborhood overnight

SW Albuquerque –

Around 1AM Albuquerque Police were called out to a gun shot victim in the street near the 1500 block of 3rd Street SW. When they arrived they found a deceased individual with wounds to the face.

A few miles away APD Chief Harold Medina, spokesman Gilbert Gallegos, and Field Services Deputy Commander Josh Brown posed in a photograph at Hotel Albuquerque. The photo was posted to Chief Medina’s official Twitter page. The caption said, “What a Great Night!!!”

The three APD staff were attending Mayor Keller’s watch party for the Mayoral race.

This was the third homicide in a 24 hour period in Albuquerque and the 124th homicide of 2021.
