Albuquerque –
At approximately 4:00 PM on June 27, 2024, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving two semi trucks on I-40 Westbound at the Rio Grande.
Upon arrival, AFR units discovered that one of the semi trucks had a torn saddle fuel tank, leaking diesel across all lanes of I-40 Westbound for about 200 yards just before the Rio Grande exit. For the safety of motorists, I-40 was shut down as the lanes were extremely slick.
AFR reports that their hazmat task force was deployed to the crash to apply hydrocarbon reduction foam to the impacted roadway.
The scene was then handed over to the New Mexico State Police and NM DOT, who were applying sand and had street sweepers en route. There were no significant injuries, and no one was transported from the scene.
