“Incompetent” Murder Suspect Strikes Again Almost Killing Another Victim

Around 2:20 PM, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a stabbing at the French Quarter Apartments, located at 1101 Palomas Dr SE. Officers were advised by the 911 caller that at least one person had been stabbed. The person taken into custody for the stabbing was 52-year-old Geraldine Begay.

On November 15th, 2023, Begay had a similar type incident where Begay was engaged in a physical fight with a man on that day. The man resided in one of the apartments, and reportedly, Begay was a frequent visitor to the victim. The arrest followed an altercation witnessed by onlookers at the nearby Lanai apartments on 1033 Madeira Ave. SE.

Numerous eyewitnesses recounted that Begay threw various objects at the man, kicking him persistently even after he had fallen to the ground near his apartment door. The victim displayed visible injuries, including a laceration behind the ear, a significant bump on the back of his head and abrasions on a finger. The man from the 2023 confrontation died from his injuries.

The trial never moved forward due to Begay being incompetent to stand trial.

In this current case, the criminal complaint says witnesses saw Begay stab the victim and there was blood on Begay’s shirt. The victim could be heard saying “ahhh” and “you stabbed me.” The victim had heavy blood loss and was in critical condition when transported to UNMH. Hospital staff were able to stabilize the victim stabbed at the French Quarter Apartment and save her life.

When police interviewed Begay, she made nonsensical statements and denied stabbing anyone.

The 2023 murder trial was vacated due to Begay being incompetent. She was released back into the community and continues to be a menace to society. In the last 3 years she has picked up other charges including aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and criminal damage to property over $1,000.

In this most recent case, she is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
