Albuquerque –
On August 21, 2026, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a stabbing at the French Quarter Apartments, located at 1101 Palomas Dr SE. Officers were advised by a 911 caller that at least one person had been stabbed. The person taken into custody for the stabbing was 52-year-old Geraldine Begay. We had originally reported the victim was in stable condition.
Over the weekend Albuquerque Police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos informed the public that the victim had died from their stab wound.
Back in November 14th, of 2023, Begay had a similar type incident where Begay was engaged in a physical fight with a man on that day. The man resided in one of the apartments, and reportedly, Begay was a frequent visitor to the victim. The arrest followed an altercation witnessed by onlookers at the nearby Lanai apartments on 1033 Madeira Ave. SE.
Numerous eyewitnesses recounted that Begay threw various objects at the man, kicking him persistently even after he had fallen to the ground dying near his apartment door. The victim displayed visible injuries, including a laceration behind the ear, a significant bump on the back of his head and abrasions on a finger. The man from the 2023 confrontation also died from his injuries.

The trial never moved forward due to Begay being incompetent to stand trial with a competency claim in August of 2024. The document said the defendant (Begay) has been found not dangerous and not competent Judge Lucy Solimon signed off on the order. The order was also sealed until August 2025 by the Judge.

Since the release Begay went on a violent spree of attacking victims. In a February 2025 case, she went into a friend’s house and beat him with a cane. She stole $22 and left the area. The victim had numerous lacerations on his body and head during that incident.
Two weeks prior to this most recent murder, Begay, threatened to kill a security officer and threw rocks at him. The complaint says Begay was being a menace to local businesses and civilians near 201 San Pedro Dr SE. On one occasion she damaged a car with a rock. Before that she went into a restaurant and threw food around a dining area.
Since publishing the story about the stabbing, we have received messages from tipsters saying Begay is actually very competent and knows exactly what she is doing when she commits felonies against people along the War Zone corridor.
We will let you know if she is let free to kill again during her next pre-trial detention hearing. We will update you so that our motto of Stay Safe Albuquerque is taken into consideration.
