Today, June 27, 2024, a jury convicted Roman Cerna of First Degree Murder.

Cerna purportedly shot and killed 23-year-old Chance Elkshoulder outside a smoke shop in Albuquerque on July 12, 2020. It happened in the parking lot of the Dank Smoke Shop, along San Pedro between Zuni and Gibson. The shooting happened right in front of Elkshoulder’s younger sister. Security cameras captured footage of the entire incident.

Cerna remained at large until July 9, 2023, after reportedly receiving money from a relative and fleeing Albuquerque following the murder.

It took the jury five hours to reach a verdict.

Cerna faces life in prison. Sentencing will happen at a later date.
