Downtown Albuquerque – Earlier today APD investigated a crash involving a truck that struck two pedestrians near a group of homeless folks at 1st St. and Arvada Ave., N.W. It was reported that one person was critically injured and a second victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both are at UNMH getting treatment for their injuries.
Officers originally responded shortly before 11 a.m. to a call about the crash.
Traffic investigators determined that a white Dodge Ram was traveling northbound on 1st St NE and drove onto the east curb of 1st St and Arvada. The driver then drove the vehicle onto the sidewalk, striking a pedestrian. The vehicle then swerved off the sidewalk into the second pedestrian. The vehicle then struck the northwest corner of the intersection and then fled the area west on Arvada and then north on 2nd St NW. The maniac driver never bothered stopping at the stop sign, or checking on the people he mowed down. The vehicle was last seen going north on 2nd St passing Menaul Blvd NW.
The two pedestrians were transported to UNM Hospital. The first pedestrian suffered a broken arm. The second pedestrian is in critical condition.
Police officials say evidence on scene identifies the truck as a white 1991 – 2001 model Dodge Ram 1500 with a black headache rack. The passenger front headlight is also broken out.
Anyone with information is asked to call 505-242-COPS.
